about

The Terreiro Zen repertoire includes Afro-Brazilian traditional songs, as well as pieces composed for the project. The word terreiro refers to the spaces where rituals are conducted in many African-based religions in Brazil. From working with Afro-Brazilian rhythms to selecting the repertoire, the album stems from a comprehensive research on Afro-Brazilian music traditions and a cultivated experience with Kirtan Yoga (chanting meditation). Imagine these pieces as songs in the lotus pose, as part of a musical dialogue between traditional Afro-Brazilian religious songs and mantric sound, in a crossroads of ancestral knowledge — the terreiro and zen.
